This article provides an overview of the rules you can create in the Mutating records section on the Rules tab in the Data Garden project.

The conditions and actions which you can select are identical to those in the Creating Records and Event Based sections. The difference is the timing:

Creating records: at the moment a record is created

Mutating records: at the moment the record is mutated, for example when the status changes from new to complete

Event Based: every 4 hours, regardless of changes to the record

If you want to make changes to the data when the record changes from new to complete, or if you want to send a trigger email if someone completed the questionnaire, you can create a dynamic rule in the Mutating Records section.

Examples of what the DRE can do for you:

- send a trigger email

- set a record to complete if a particular question is answered

- add background variables with a reference table (this can bu useful if you want to add data based on questionnaire data)

- change the status of a record

You can choose if you want to use the wizard or if you want to create expert rules. You can also create a rule with the wizard and then click on 'Convert to expert'.

Similarly to the DRE in other parts of the system, you have to select conditions first:

Then select the action(s):
